Inganzo Dance Troupe Off to Singapore for Festival

One of Rwanda’s most acclaimed dance troupes, Inganzo, has left the country for Singapore to perform at the Chingay Cultural Festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of the nation’s independence.

The troupe will also make a stopover in Malaysia for a performance. They were invited to perform at Chingay festival on the initiative of the Rwandan embassy in Singapore.

Inganzo stands out on the traditional dance scene because they work with both professional musicians and dancers, contrary to most groups whose members perform in their spare time. They have performed Intore and other traditional dances around the world.

The word Chingay is equivalent to the Mandarin ‘zhuang yi’ which means “the art of costume and masquerade” in the Hoiken dialect.
