The Mashirika drama group will stage ‘Bridge of Roses’ on 1st July at Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre Amphitheatre (Gisozi) starting at 6pm.
Bridge of Roses is a dramatic performance inspired by the events of the Genocide against the Tutsi. It aims to explore the meaning of humanity and what it means to respond to turbulent times as a human being.
The play sets aside labels and examines what it means to walk in another person’s shoes. It begs us to leave behind all social, political, ethnic, or economic labels and don the cloak of humanity.
After the play, an interactive session with the audience will be held to discuss some of the issues brought up in the play.
“When we lose loved ones, we often place flowers on the grave side. When we go to see a sick person in hospital, we take them flowers and when we want to express love or appreciation to someone, we give them flowers. This is because flowers have the power to invoke a sense of hope, comfort, peace and beauty. What’s more, they serve as a symbol of hope, reminding us of the spirit of life,” part of the script in the play says.
